Marling Fishing Adventures
May 31, 2019Stepping onto a charter boat for the first time is an exciting experience, and while the focus is naturally on the fishing ahead, taking a few minutes to understand the basics of boat safety is something every guest should do before the lines go in the water. A good charter operator will always conduct a full safety briefing before departing the dock — covering the location of life jackets, emergency equipment, and what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency on the water. At Dreamcatcher Sport Fishing Charters, safety is never treated as a formality or an afterthought. It is the foundation that every great day on the water is built on, and we take it seriously on every single trip regardless of the conditions or the duration of the charter.
Understanding the safety equipment on board and how it works is one of the most important things a charter guest can do. Every vessel operating commercially in Australian waters is required to carry a full suite of AMSA approved safety gear — including life jackets for every passenger, EPIRBs, flares, fire extinguishers, a VHF marine radio, and a fully stocked first aid kit. At Dreamcatcher, all of our safety equipment is regularly inspected, properly maintained, and ready to use at a moment’s notice. We also encourage every guest to ask questions during the safety briefing — there is no such thing as a silly question when it comes to knowing how to keep yourself and your fellow passengers safe out on the water.
Conditions on the water can change quickly and unexpectedly, particularly during the cooler months when weather systems move through the region with little warning. A responsible charter operator monitors weather forecasts closely in the days and hours leading up to every trip and will never hesitate to reschedule or modify a charter if conditions pose any risk to the safety of guests or crew. As a guest, it is equally important to dress appropriately for the conditions — layered clothing, non-slip footwear, and a good quality hat and sunscreen are essentials on any charter regardless of the season. Staying hydrated, moving carefully around the deck, and always keeping one hand on the boat in rougher conditions are simple habits that go a long way toward keeping everyone safe and comfortable throughout the day.
At Dreamcatcher Sport Fishing Charters, our captain holds a current commercial marine licence and is trained in first aid and on-water emergency response — giving our guests the confidence and peace of mind to relax and enjoy every moment of their charter experience. We believe that the best fishing trips are the ones where safety and enjoyment go hand in hand, and we work hard to create an environment on board where every guest feels informed, comfortable, and well looked after from the moment they step on the dock to the moment they step off. Book with confidence, fish with confidence, and trust that with Dreamcatcher, you are always in safe and capable hands.
